What an adventure! It’s intense, romantic, page turning fun. Isabella is the type of heroine I love to read, so tough, so capable, so in control. But she can’t control how deep she’s falling for Brady. Swoon! Their scenes are hot.The suspense is intense in this one. It’s powerful and the end, especially with the bonus short story, is the perfect happy ending.Kacey Hammell you are amazing. Loved it!

New to me author...I enjoyed this book so much. Romance-Suspense, in my opinion, is the best EVER! As soon as I started reading this story I was sucked into a world packed full of action, mystery, and smoking hot sex. Police detectives and Private investigators have never worked so well together.

Illusions is the first book in The Arms of the Law series by Kacey Hammell, an author I've never read before. It tells the story of Detective Isabella Knowles, a woman who's been through some serious ordeals in her life and as a result is a tough-as-nails, career orientated woman with no love in her life - except for friends and family. However, when she embarks on a new relationship, she starts to question her decision on the whole no-strings thing. Her new lover makes her feel happier than she has in a long time, but she fights it every step of the way. She's lost too much in her life to risk getting close to someone, and losing them too. Or so she thinks.Their relationship continues in secret, and the two of them are content with the situation - for now. That is, until something happens that puts them both - and others that they love - in serious danger. Will the situation make or break their relationship? Only one way to find out.I was hooked on this book from the very beginning. The writing style is very engaging, the characters real and likeable, and, once the storyline got going, the sex scenes were smokin' hot, too! It's the sort of story that will make you want to shout at the characters every now and again, but it's because you care about what happens to them. And that can only be a good thing, right?Overall, a very enjoyable read. If you love thrills, tension and heartache with your erotic romance, then you should definitely check out Illusions. I'll definitely be looking out for the other books in the series, especially with the cliffhanger ending of this one!

This was an entertaining little book, that kept up a nice pace and contained lots of action. I liked the Paranormal edge added by Brady's special visions. I liked that Isabella was such a strong touch chick, in a profession like law enforcement where she is surrounded by domineering men; she holds her own. Her independence tended to be a bit overdone at times and her determination to remain alone because of her views on love got old after a few pages. However, Brady complimented her nicely and balanced her out. You could see that he was the one man that could make her reconsider her stance on love and marriage. Their relationship begins as something purely sexual, at least that's how they tried to keep it. Even when reading about their first encounter, there is a chemistry and a tenderness that exists between the two that makes you want to see them end up together. My only one complaint is that the love scenes between them never once displayed any of the tenderness or love that was evident in their relationship. I mean, I get that their sexual appetites were high, but each scene was wild and hot, and just once, maybe, I'd have liked to have seen some of the care and tenderness displayed physically so that they didn't come across as two horny people just jumping on each other. This was a small complaint for me though, because honestly the sex scenes are pretty hot...I mean, spray myself off with a water bottle afterward hot! The action was engaging and the characters were likeable. I look forward to reading book 2 and seeing how the life of Isabella's cousin Alicia, unfolds. Hopefully we'll catch a glimpse of Brady and Isabella in their happily ever after as well??

If you are looking for a sexy and suspenseful, action packed story, then Illusions by Kacey Hammell is an excellent read. This story revolves around a tough female detective, Isabella Knowles, who initially appears to be all about work and no play but is keeping a big secret from those closest to her. The story picks up as soon as Brady Jacobs, ex-military man with a special ability, saunters onto the scene and we discover there’s much more to Isabella and Brady’s relationship than meets the eye. They have great chemistry but Isabella’s past and profession poses challenges. I really enjoyed reading the emotional role reversal angle the author took with these two characters throughout the story. I loved the fact that Isabella was so complex. There are many different ways one can handle personal tragedy, and although I can’t say I’d deal with it the same way, watching Isabella’s process, although heartbreaking at times, was very touching and I even shed a few tears. Her job as a cop plays a role in this story and I only wish this was a full length novel so it could have been explored further and in more detail. I’d like to see more of Isabella and Brady, as well as a couple of the secondary characters in this series. The bonus story is a sweet treat. Looking forward to Book Two in this series!

Illusions is the first book in The Arms of the Law series by Kacey Hammell. I was drawn into the passion and pain of the main two characters, Isabella – a police detective – and PI Brady.Isabella has had a rough life, starting with her mothers murder at the hands of an enemy of her cop father. She is determined that love is not for her. Brady has also sworn off love after his fiancé leaves him when he reveals his secret. Perfect match, right? Two gorgeous people who both want no strings? Ha! No mater the pains wither has suffered, you can’t become that involved with your best friend – that your body and soul craves as much as MnM’s – and not fall! The writing was engaging and clean. I liked how the characters made you care for them. And the sex scenes . . . HOT. I so wanted to be Isabella . . . yummy guy, who k n o w e s what he’s got and hot to use it.The ending was neat and sweet. Almost. The very end left me going, Huh. But . . . Now I eagerly await book 2 in the series. I mean, who doesn’t like sex cops? You will heart will ache for each of them while other ‘bits’ ache for a wholly yummy reason.Yummy first book that any who love romance, especially HOT erotic romance, need to pick Illusions up!

I really liked Brady and the paranormal twist that was thrown in with his special ability. I liked that Isabella was tough, and that she fit right into the “man’s world” of a police department, although her tough as nails attitude sometimes grated on my nerves a little bit, as well as all of the guilt she carries at the end of the book. The book was non-stop action. There was never a time during reading the book that I wanted to skip over paragraphs because of boredom. The book held my attention from beginning to end.I felt this story could have been longer. It seemed hurried, and some of the scenes seemed to get wrapped up way too quickly for my taste. But speaking of scenes, the sex scenes were HAWT. Very nicely done. I had to reread the “door scene” to make sure I was picturing everything right. Brady and Isabella’s relationship start out as nothing but sexual, and both begin to have feelings for each other. I would think that those feelings would bleed into their lives and we would see some tender moments, but we really don’t until all hell breaks loose.Overall, I enjoyed this story very much. It was a quick, fun read, and I would definitely recommend it!

The First Line: "You haven't found anyone have you?" Not even two minutes into the building and already her cousin Alicia was on her case. What did a girl have to do to get a few moments of peace? So this book was super short, and I loved it for that. Lately Ive been reading 400 page books and 300 pages books. It's nice to get a short and sweet one every once in a while. Ive also been reading alot of romances and they all seem to be so good! Illusions is the story of two cops that fall in love but the girl doesn't want to fall in love, so they ignore it. And then something happens that changes everything. It was so good and I couldn't put it down. Isabella was a great heroine and Brady was an amazing hero. They had lots of steaminess between them and I especially enjoyed those parts *wink wink*So there's not much else to say about this book, besides that I can't wait to read more about Bella and Brady!

Illusions is a quick and enjoyable romantic suspense, . Isabella has experienced loss in her life and that has made her shy away from commitment and "happily ever after". What a better to have the best of both worlds, than to have an affair with her best friend. It's supposed to be no strings attached, friend with benefits, right? She quickly find out how wrong she was. Brady figures he has the perfect woman for him, but he has to convince Isabella of that fact. It was refreshing to have the guy be in the one in love and ready to admit it first. I also liked that they had a friendship first before the love affair. You could tell that they really did care about each other. My only complaint about the story is that I wish it had been longer. I felt like the mystery part came out of nowhere. It would have been nice to have more of a build up to it. Despite that, I think romantic suspense fans will enjoy this one. I know I did.

Illusions is a fast paced, enjoyable and hot romantic suspense read. Isabella has experienced some major losses in her life that has made her commitment shy, nor does she believe in the happily ever after scenario. What better way to have it all, than to have an affair with her best friend? It's no strings attached, friends with benefits, right? She quickly finds out how wrong she is.Brady figures he has the perfect woman for him, but he has to convince her of that fact. It was refreshing to have the hero be in the one in love and ready to commit first. I also liked that they had a friendship first before the love affair. You could tell that they really did care about each other. I also liked the combination of the super hot love scenes and the super exciting suspense; it keeps you reading! I think romantic suspense fans will enjoy this one. Review copy from author.

Well let me start off by saying I scored this novel as part of the Illusions tour. At first I wasn't sure if this was goingto be too "normal" for my taste but I actually really enjoyed it. The story starts out with a hard nosed female police officer. Coming from a family of cops she has had to push twice as hard to prove what a woman can do. Add to that a hunky ex military guy who is also a psychic and this is the start of an excellent romance with enough heat and action to keep the reader enthralled. Kacey has done an amazing job building characters with depth. And feelings. Even her minor characters have a way of worming their way into your heart. This novel is a total win in my book and totally worth the read.

I liked it!The first chapter was bit choppy as we got the back story interwoven into the dialogue. I had no idea what was being said or what the point of that first conversation was because we were bouncing around all over the place. However, once we got past that first chapter and onto the rest of the book, it was GOOD!! There was non-stop action. It was great for my 5 minute breaks. There was real meat (plot/character growth) in each chapter. There were several scenes that just went by too fast, though. The book felt a bit rushed, or as though there was a tight word limit. The sex scenes were great! *grin* They were FABulous! This was a GOOD read!

I really enjoyed this story. The main characters, Brady and Bella, had that incredibly sexy chemistry together from the start. As the relationship develops, we start to see that they're both scared, but for completely different reasons. The suspense was well done, and helped move the story along to show the personal growth of both characters. I wish that the story hadn't moved so quickly toward the end, but overall it was a fantastic read and I can't wait for more. The freebie story at the end was... *fans self* HOTT!

Isabella has had a rough go lately. With her mother being murdered she decides that love is not going to happen to her. She wants nothing to do with it. Then we have Brady who does not want love either as his fiance left after he shared a secret with her. This is a good couple to see together. The plot is heated and the sex is hot. This is a great start to a new series. I look forward to more reads.

This is the first story I've read by Kacey Hammell, but I have to say, it won't be the last. Illusions is a heart-pounding story that has sexy and suspense all wrapped up together. I either needed a fan to cool off, or was on the edge of my seat for some serious action. I highly recommend this book!If you are a fan of the television shows, Castle and/or The Mentalist, you should definitely check out Illusions.

Illusions (In the Arms of the Law #1) Kacey HammellAm I dreaming if so I don't want to wake up? Can I really believe what I see? What a cliffhanger!Heartbreak and disappointment often pushes most people into a state of mind where they can lose themselves to avoid dealing with their agony of woes. Perhaps the distraction appears as a demanding career, volunteerism, or an OCD behavior takes the place of the unbearable anguish. In the suspenseful, thriller Illusions (In the Arms of the Law #1) by the talented author Kacey Hammell is a story I quickly identified with and it grabbed my emotions, gave them a good, hard shake and dropped me back into reality. Ms. Hammell uses her pen to etch a special place in my heart and I believe Illusions (In the Arms of the Law #1) will have the same impact on the hearts and minds of thousands of readers who delve into the strange realms embedded within Illusions. Ms. Hammell creates a deeply moving and sensual tale that rock the perceptions associated with defining strength and competence. Isabella Knowles epitomizes sensuality, toughness, and independence, capable of managing difficult life situations plunk down on her path. You will find Detective Isabella Knowles stompin' through life's wilderness of suffering and discontentment. Those who know Izzy may say she is seeking things that are considered superficial: powerful career, freedom from attachments and a liberated sex life. Ms Hammell paints the landscape of illusions for unaware observer putting them in awe of this multifaceted woman who fearlessly handle situations that rattle the core of most men. Remember everything that glitters is not gold and the grass is only greener when viewed from a distance. Determination as survivors Isabella and Brady manifest a chemistry that go back years and when mixed together generates heat and single mindedness that only the two of them and the readers understand. It is captivating how they fight crime with the same intense vigor as they do when making love. I enjoyed Illusions (In the Arms of the Law #1) the clear, stimulating, descriptive writing style of Ms. Hammell. She takes you out of your world and throws you head first into the deep end of the pool of a suspense, passion, sweltering hanky panky, and heart racing events. I found all of the story's elements believable and engaging making me wish I was a late comer to Ms. Hammell's blistering romantic series and having a couple of books following this one to feed my hunger until the next novel. Unfortunately, I will have to wait along with everyone else for the erotic, paranormal sequel. Ms. Hammell's key characters transports the reader on a powerful mind-trip that leaves you craving for more. Illusions (In the Arms of the Law #1) is an addictive erotic paranormal romance with tasty morsels of intrigue. Isabella Knowles, lead personality, a law enforcement professional on top of her game, is well respected by her peers and superiors for her tenacity. Isabella can easily be every woman's heroine. Izzy is without a doubt my kind of woman as she proudly and fearlessly struts her stuff in her big girl panties. If Wonder Woman were around she would take notice of Isabella's determination for bringing criminals to justice. Isabella's traits remind me of my sister; Detective Knowles is sexy, beautiful, gutsy and commanding law enforcement agent.Brady Jacobs, a Private Investigator, on the down-low admires Isabella. He is insightful, courageous and a force to reckon with as he carries particles of heartbreak from a previous lover. Brady attempts to shield himself from love and commitment. Heck yeah, Brady Jacobs has the body that hypnotizes; washboard abs, guns and masterfully wields a human baton that brings tears to your eyes. Brady's special gift enables him to see into the future which is invaluable asset in his career. This complex gift however is a frightening one to handle for those close to him. Brady and Isabella maintain a exceptional relationship that has everything they want...detachment and awesome explosive intimate relations. Knowles and Jacobs are phenomenal together on a case and between the sheets! Oh yeah! They are getting' in. Ms. Hammell provides Brady and Izzy with numerous opportunities of blazing passion and these hot scenarios had me looking for a gigantic block of ice to perch on as I devoured Isabella's Illusions. The development of the story's secondary characters: Alicia, Isabella's dad, Dylan's are realistic holding your attention as the plot evolves charged with elements found in any city's newspaper. Ms. Hammell's novel unlike the news, provides the readers with a gratifying conclusion but eagerly awaiting the next book. I highly recommend Illusions (In the Arms of the Law #1) and I am confident Ms. Hammell's imagination and writing style will generate another action packed, suspenseful, page-turner making her readers and I greedier and craving for the upcoming outrageously delicious eroticism and paranormal events as only she can bring to her mystifying webs of intrigue.

The review that follows is a partial review. To view the full text, please visit:http://tbqspersonalbookpalace.blogspo...~*~*~*~Isabella Knowles has more or less followed into the family business of putting away the scum bags of the city. She's tough and believes that she can be Superwoman, defending the innocent all by herself. She doesn't believe in love—or at least doesn't want to ever be in love. To her, love means pain and loneliness should something happen to dissolve a HEA. And as a cop, she's not guaranteed a HEA. So all her relationships are purely for one thing—to scratch an itch. No strings attached, no deep emotions, nothing. Should be every guy's dream woman, right? Not for Brady Jacobs, fellow P.I.. Oh, sure, at first the thought of friends with benefits was the best news he'd ever had. But now... well, his heart has become involved, and not only does Isabella not want emotional ties, but what man wants to admit to having them? The sex is great—spectacular even—but he finds himself wanting more from their relationship. When a murder/rape case comes up, and a character close to both of them becomes involved, Brady tries to protect Isabella. But in the end, will his lies lead to her never forgiving him? Or even worse, will it lead to his own death—before he can tell her how he feels?I liked Illusions, it was a pretty good (and steamy) novella. But it had a few flaws that kept it from reaching book perfection. First, it seemed like a lot of details were missing—I'd come across something in the book and had no idea where it came from. It made for a bit of a rough story, one that could have been smoothed off a bit more to make it an easier journey.Although Brady and Isabella both seemed like nice enough characters, I didn't get much from them, especially Brady. In fact, other than his visions, I can't tell you one thing about him, his personality, or any quirks he had. Isabella was much the same, a bit too flat for a main character. I need more than what I got to fall in love with a character.I also wanted to hear more about the paranormal element to the book. In fact, it was so minute, I pretty much wrote it off. Brady's visions are mentioned only a few times, briefly, and not in great detail. For all intensive purposes, this was basically a straight contemporary—and again, I was left wanting more. The sex was definitely there, and quiet steamy, but even great sex isn't enough by itself to make a book a top pick.....~*~*~*~This review is property of The_Book_Queen (TBQ's Book Palace)

This is one book that is full of action pack, a little mystery, finding what you never thought you wanted and holding on to it. Isabella and Brady are all about control never letting their feeling get out of hand. Both have been hurt badly in different ways. They have been best friends for years always there for the other giving all they can to be there and help. The author grabs your attraction pulling you in and keeping you with this page turner. I was really taken away by her writing style the love she gave her characters as she spins a winning tale. She gives you strong characters who know how to stand up and demand control why learning where their bounds are. This is full of some hot passion as these two burn up the pages. I loved Isabella there is nothing weak about this lady well when it comes to Brady she isn’t as strong as she would like to be. This is one woman who won’t stand back letting someone else to protect her. She is use to protecting herself and those around her. Love has and will never be a part of her plans. Love hurts, love kills, love goes away and leaves you alone. She has her bootie call but that is all it is. Brady feels the same about love and life as Isabella does no way no how will he fall. He is different and women just can’t take what his mind shows them. There isn’t anything he wouldn’t do for Isabella which he shows as he tries his best to protect her. I fell hard for Brady with what his ex did to him it is hard not to let him pull you in taking your heart with him.I really enjoyed this book the author show just how powerful love can be by giving you a wonderful read pull of mind blowing passion. The characters are wonderful I feel sure you will fall in love with a few. It is a believable story that is filled with thrills, a few chills and a lot of passion. This is the first I have read by this author. I can’t wait to get started on book two in this series.

Isabella Knowles is the type of person you want to be friends with. She'll have your back and a very loyal friend. She's tough as nails and won't back down from a battle. A force to be reckoned with, to be sure. She's been having an on again off again with a local PI, Brady Jacobs. She likes the no strings attached relationship, but he's starting to want more. Brady isn't just a PI, he's also a seer. He's ability has helped his business and he'll assist the authorities when possible. He wasn't looking for more than what he and with Bella, but she's found a way into his heart whether she meant to or not.Just as he's coming to terms with his feeling and attempting to convince Bella her heart wants the same, something disturbs their peaceful live. Now they must face this danger head on, but will Bella come to terms with her feelings for Brady before it's too late?I loved this fast paced, high action story. Brady is sexy and his ability is provacative. I love how he uses it for a good cause. Bella and Brady together are amazing. They have a sizzling connection that can't be diminished. This book is thrilling and the suspense will capture your imagination. The the bonus short story really provided a happy ending for this fabulous couple.

This book was great! I liked it right from the start. I read it in one sitting. It is fast paced and suspenseful. There was some unanswered questions about certain events and characters in the book, and the ending was left open for book 2. I also hope there is some sort of prequel or at least some flashbacks in book 2 that answer some of the questions. The sex scenes were the most detailed thing in the book. I wish everything was more detailed and the characters had more depth, but liked the story nonetheless. The book has a paranormal element that is pretty important to the book (one of the main characters is clairvoyant and helps solve cases), but that is not very elaborated either.VERDICT:All in all it was a good book, and I recommend to any romance novel lover.see this and other reviews at

I didn't feel there was much a plot to this story. There was no build up to the climax involving the hostage and not enough detail to make me feel like I was in a cop shop. But I did like the role reversal situations of the heroine and heroine. Bella's lifestyle of only having physical relationships with men is more typical of a male character in romantic suspense, and Brady's more nurturing nature, not to mention his psychic ability seems to be standard in female characters in rom sus. But I felt the whole thing was just sketched in and so ultimately, I felt unsatisfied that this premise was not explored more fully. Something was was interesting is that the character of Isabella is really selfish stubborn and frankly, I did not find her that bright, but her character maybe because of these flaws was the most fleshed out.

This book has all the non stop heart racing nail biting action all rolled into one! Isabella is one woman that takes her job very seriously. She can handle all aspects of her life except the love part. She wants no part of it. Shes happy with the way things are, she don't believe in it, an knows its just not for her. That's until she meets Brady who is also in the same boat. He's been hurt and doesn't want to go through that heartache again. He's an investigator, with a helpful tool! He also gets these visions. After alot of fighting love hot sex and I mean smoking hot! He gets a vision that could take away the one thing he's fighting for. This has loads of suspense, mystery, and hot scenes to keep you going for sure!

OK, the sex was hot, Isabella was tiough as nails, but... it is just too much. I realize that a girl take very badly the violent death of her mother, but too much is too much: Isy's fear of love and commitments is over the top. I think that the theme: "I will not love, 'cause I don't want to suffer if the loved one leaves me/die/whatever" is oversued. I didn't like how she didn't went looking for Brady, obviously badly hurt in the explosion; how she left him in the hospital on the brink of death... If you love somebody you'll never do soething like that... at least I wouldn't...

For a short read this was a good book. However, the grammar was not. That problem is hard for me to pass over. The suspense was decent, the love scenes extremely hot, the secondary characters were even fairly strong enough to help the storyline. I'm wanting to read the follow up book, but don't know if I can get passed that bad grammar....
