The Return of the Santa Fe Super Chief Reviews
The characters in this book are very compelling. The trip was one I had to take in one sitting. It is one of those books that made me believe I really got away. Even if I weren't familiar with Union Station in LA, Dearborn station in Chicago and most of the towns mentioned on the route of the Super Chief, I would have been delighted to be on this cinematic journey. I started the book and couldn't put it down (only taking time to walk the dog). Doug Folsom has used a device between chapters that made me feel such a part of everything -- inspired. I recommend it to all!
From the beginning to the end this book keeps you interested that is why it becomes a quick read. I get inspired with the descriptions of the trains, landscape of the journey and the stories of each character all entwined from past to present. The book provides a nostalgic look at life - human kindness, connection, mystery and romance. Doug Folsom has a way of making the entire book come alive, the setting, the characters, the emotions - that is why it is fitting to be turned into a movie. The beauty of the train journey may I add gives me a good reason to dream of taking one in the future.
