TW: sexual assaultTW: rapeTW: abuseI was über excited about this when I started. Then it went downhill. Fast. The fact that he sexually assaults and rapes her is never given much focus. It's disgusting. Their getting together is iffy too as it's when she's alone, feeling vulnerable. And he is so controlling, throwing fits when she goes out or stays out when he doesn't want her to. It almost doesn't matter that it's how he behaves. It's controlling, possessive and unhealthy to the extreme.I was going to gloss over it because the negative outweighs the good. However, I'll give it some credit. Yes. It's different to the usual damsel-in-distress / Cinderella story. The two characters, I rooted for them until he started stalking her and forcing himself into her life. There was a certain real-ness to them, a raw, living, breathing reality to them that I could relate to and I thought it was brilliant until they tried to pass of his sexual assault as a 'boy's will be boys' things; that he loved her too much he and 'couldn't help himself' and other rape apologist ramblings of no coherency. It was nice that he had nice parents instead of the rich snobs you usually see.It really irks me that this had so much potential to be good, amazing. Instead it became this mess. I was still a fan of the heroine by the end. But I can never stand by a rapist, fictional or otherwise. This isn't romance to me. It's more like the story of an abuser and his victim. In fact, the only reason I stayed to the end was because of Mo Yu Hua. I wanted to see what else I could glean about her.

This is a highly recommended romance novel, it is quite different from the Mr. Perfect-meets-damsel-in-distress/damsel-by-accident kind of novel.Right from the get go, you might not like the male character. It's mostly due to his behaviour, but then you can't fault a hot-blooded-going-through-puberty lad, with stinkingly rich parents, and an only son. Then there our lead female character who puts pride and dignity before anything else, albeit she has a poor background. How long will she keep up with that principle??!!There are also other side characters which add flavour to the book. Loving someone doesn't mean everything is settled or everything is right. Things happen that are beyond one's control, and these things tend to dictate one's course of action or path.

I’m a spoiler. Not because I want to discourage/encourage anyone in reading this book. I just want to write the highlights for me to remember by in the future. (There are really instances when I forgot about the story and I don’t want to waste my time in re-reading books that have bad plots.)I like the first chapters but the later parts were somewhat heavy and confusing. I don't like the choices made by the protagonists about certain situations. I find the H funny at the beginning and his actions (during high school) made me giddy but later on I decided not to like him at all. He was possessive and childish. He insisted himself on her. Yu Jin (the heroine) had this chance of happiness with other man during her college days but Cheng Zheng (the Hero) just came into her life again, disrupting everything. Aarrgghh..!! The heroine was stoic by nature (I've read few stoic heroines) so I understood her passiveness, coolness from the beginning. The only thing I don't get about the plot was Yu Jin becoming a (view spoiler)[mistress to her boss (she was a third party for what 4 years?). It came to be a surprise for me - more than knowing that she had a miscarriage and couldn't have any children anymore. I mean, her character being a mistress was somewhat out of the blue. It was also weird that she was shagging her boss this whole time - I couldn't actually see her character to be it. It's not that I'm conservative with my views or what. It's just the flow of her character was somehow offkey in some parts. Her being a mistress for 4 years was the product of her grief: break-up with H, losing the baby, etc. For me, I don't really buy the thing that she invested emotionally, physically for years being a mistress then just gave up the relationship easily because the wife confronted her.(hide spoiler)]And then it seemed that everything went alright when H showed up. Sigh! Maybe I'm too simple minded. Why I gave this 4 stars because of Mo Yu Hua. Her character was the most underrated of all. She was Yu Jin's close friend in college and later years. She was in loved with Zhou Zi Yi since high school. She confessed, he rebuffed. And she loved him for years - even after he had a fiance, a wedding, his divorce. She was there when he got into an accident. She was there when he was mending from his broken heart - divorce. She was there when he announced that he still loved his wife and wanted to remarry. She was still there until the end - living, comforting her broken heart ALONE!Dear Author, please please let Mo Yu Hua have her own happy ending. She was plain in high school and still ordinary looking in later years. BUT even plain looking people deserve to have happiness. I see myself in her in a lot of ways especially the "unrequited love" part. So PLEASE I'm begging you to at least give her a happy ending. Even romantic bliss does not happen to me in reality, at least I can read it in fiction.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

This book was ........ I don't even know what to say. Just read it, you won't regret it.. trust me. the following summery is written by Peanuts and I'll add the link to her blog at the end of this review. Is there such a person in your heart? After he left, life goes on. The traces he left behind has been gradually erased by the passage of time. You rarely think of him and can live well without him. When caught off guard, he appears in your dream again and first expresses remorse. You have a victor smile on your face, wake up & weep. Su Yun Jin cannot forget Cheng Zheng. Similarly Cheng Zheng also cannot forget Su Yun Jin. During the peak of youth, this rash and juvenile boy first clumsily expressed his love to the shy girl. All along, they are playing a game of cat and mouse. She wanted him to let go of her but when he really let go, her pain is worse than anyone else.Who said Cinderella is waiting for the glass slipper ? Even after finding a prince, still need to live an ordinary life not mentioned in the fairy tale. You have to suffer many earth shattering tortures to reach everlasting happiness. We met when we were too young, so beside love, we know nothing. So we lost each other. Then only, we know how to love better. As time goes by, after going around in circles, will that person still wait for you in the original place?Su Yun Jin fell in love with her high school classmate, Cheng Zheng. He is also deeply in love with her. However, the difference in their family background and personalities caused the two love birds to part way with each other. After their separation, Yun Jin discovered that she is pregnant with Cheng Zheng’s baby. Because of her strong characteristic, Yu Jin did not inform Cheng Zheng about the child. A few years later, Yun Jin established a successful career and Cheng Zheng reappeared in her life at this point in time. Will their love blossom?here is the link to Shushengbar where you will find a lot of Chinese books translated to English. And here is the link to the blog where you can read this novel translated to English.

In the beginning the book was really hard to get through, because there was little development in terms of the Cheng Zheng and Su Yunjin's relationship. After a few chapters, I started to slowly hate the characters. I hated Su Yunjin for her cowardice regarding love which she passes off as not wanting to be a modern version of Cinderella. I hated Cheng Zheng for his overbearing nature that takes a turn for the worse as he becomes increasingly insecure towards Yunjin's feelings for him.I gave this book four stars despite its many faults. Their relationship was dysfunctional. The characters, especially Cheng Zheng, do despicable things, and some of the lines in this book makes my inner feminist cringe. None of this can take away from the book's merit, which is how true to life this story is. Even the things I hated about the book made it more believable. Though I did not like the characters, I was deeply engrossed in their story. They both have the same insecurities as everyday people, and their character development is realistic. The part that I find hard to believe is how they ended up together again. That part fell straight from the plot of a romantic comedy I once watched. Cheng Zheng's persistence is also a bit too extremely to reflect any real life sane person. However, I never thought he was sane.Your reading experience may be different depending on which version you read. I read the new version, which apparently goes by a different timeline. Some things have been taken out and scenes from of their high school life have been added. From what I've heard, the changes make their love story feel more believable and makes the book flow smoother, but it also makes it a bit long-winded. (My reading experience may be different from other people because this is the second Chinese book that I have ever finished. I am not fluent in Chinese and had to used an electronic dictionary.)

Disclaimer : This book romanticizes rape and assault which is why I would give it 0 stars because those instances are absolutely disgusting, I'd request every reader to avoid what the author wrote and concentrate on the other aspects of the book, the 4 stars I gave are for everything apart from such absurdities in the story. The story is surreal in terms of relationship technicalities it gives out reality of so many relationships out there, I'm glad it didn't work out between them when their relationship was all about, one being insecure as hell and hence suffocated the other with "affections" which included not very kind acts! And the other being an inexpressive and proud ice woman. But - - - - - - - >spoiler alert<- - - - - - - - - - It worked out between them finally, when both realized their fault. Like a normal girl, I did gush on the never changing love of Cheng Zheng which I think is one of the smaller reasons I kind of liked it. But the bigger reasons standing is portraying the truth and not overly softening and making idol characters. Both Cheng Zheng and Yun Jin are extremely flawed characters and a lot of people will end up relating. My suggestion, don't pay attention to the moments of assault, do not DARE THINK IT'S ALRIGHT, IT'S A CRIME IN THE REAL WORLD! And go have a nice weekend read about passionate relationships
