What do you get when you mix fallen angels, guardians and warrior angels with humans? A wonderfully written book that has great morals. That is exactly what you will find in this book of love and loss, family and friends, and finding out what one is capable of doing when put in compromising circumstances. There were a couple stumbling blocks from an editorial stand point but once you become enthralled with the story itself it's easy to get past that and see the values this story holds. This is definitely one to shelf for a rainy day read when you have time to enjoy the complexity of the characters in the story as well as their roles.Ilan is a warrior angel who fought many centuries along side his best friend and bonded brother, Chayan, until the day he fell. Chayan committed the worst atrocity possible, he took a humans life, though it was done in order to protect the female he was guarding he still has to adobe for that sin. This forced Ilan to take on a different perspective and a different role, one he learned to love.Ilan not only looked after the female that Chayan lost his life for but another as well. He learned a great deal about himself and human behavior in the process. And through him we learn many valuable lessons to ponder."He was happy for Chayan's joy, but angels were made to war, to love and protect the worlds of the Ancient One. It was what they lived for, and sometimes what they died for."" 'One day, your joy will be complete. We'll have to wait and see about mine.' The future didn't show him everything. ""I'll have pain for my masters tonight." Its voice was like the distant slamming of a burial tomb's door. "But it is death that they love most.""Even humans understand forgiveness. Don't do this.""There is fear and turmoil, but there will always be hope for you. Life will be found when you least expect it.""Mighty Saints in Heaven! What in the name of everything sacred is wrong with me?""I wish to have the relationship the guardians have with the humans they protect. To know that one day I will be the one to usher them home, protecting them from the fallen in the process, and to receive their love for the camaraderie we shared. I want to love like the guardians do.""After all these years, she still loves him."

I was given an ARC for my honest review. There are no spoilers in this review, and if you have read any of my reviews you know I don't.This book was really unique. This is my very first book I have read by Jena Baxter. I really was a really awing book for me. Right away I was crying through the first few chapters, and then it became funny, exciting, dramatic, and enticing.I loved her insight on the different angels, their jobs, and their names. It was almost like I was there while reading this book. I was seeing it in my mind as if it was a movie. A magical movie. I really enjoyed this book and I hope others enjoy it with me also.

Bonds of the Covenant Book OneWhen Ilan's bonded-brother, Chayan, becomes one of the Fallen, Ilan is thrown into a pit of sorrow. In this state, he defies his leader one too many times and is assigned to guard the gates of the Fallen. After his stint at the gate he is assigned to a woman whose husband had an affair and left her. Now, Ilan must resist her charms and reunite her with her husband before it is too late. After a night where he almost falls, he erases her memories of him and redoubles his efforts to bring the couple back together. However, humans don't always make the wisest decisions. If you're looking for a story with angels, humans and decisions that could change the world, this is the book for you!

I received a copy of this for free through GoodReads First ReadsI couldn't put Veiled Memories down! A truly unique story, wonderfully told. The story was very fast paced but easy to follow. It did have a few confusing POV jumps, but it didn't really detract from the story at all in my opinion. Absolutely loved this book and look forward to many more by Jena Baxter.
